How the count on Thomason Promise helped build this company

After graduating high school Kenny was quickly moving up the ranks for a union contractor building high rise casinos and it seemed like his child hood dreams were coming true. Like many others in the construction trades the 2010 recession was devastating to Kenny & Shaleen.

One day Shaleen mentioned starting their own business. Kenny thought the idea was crazy and felt like it was not the right time to do it. Kenny says he remembers mentioning everything that could go wrong with starting a business especially during a recession. That’s when Shaleen told him I married you for better or worst and as long as we are together it will all be okay.

A few weeks later Thomason Maintenance was born. It was a handyman type company that Kenny ran out of a ford ranger. Kenny knew if he could create a business people could count on that success would take care of itself. The first few years were rough especially because neither Kenny or Shaleen had any experience running a business. Kenny said when it finally felt like they were getting their heads above water something would push them back under.

They never gave up on their core principles of doing the right thing no matter whose watching. They always say if doing the right thing doesn’t put us in the right spot at the end than at least we know we did our best.

12 Years later Kenny and Shaleen hold 5 Unlimited licenses and have had as many as 127 W-2 employees at one time. They believe in treating all employees like they are part of the family and when they get the right people they do everything they can to train, mentor and promote.

Kenny says the key to a successful business is training your team members so they can leave you tomorrow and then treating them good enough they never do.
